India Business Forum in Kenya

High Commission of India in Nairobi organised a meeting of India Business Forum on 2 February 2016. H. E. Mrs. Suchitra Durai, High Commissioner of India chaired the interactive meeting, which was attended by 30 CEOs/senior representatives of major Indian companies based in Kenya.

Kenya is an important trade and investment partner of India. The last few years have seen a rapid growth in bilateral trade, which crossed US$ 4 billion mark in year 2013-14. With bilateral trade around US $ 4.3 billion during 2014-15, India is one of Kenya’s largest trading partners. In the last two decades, Indian firms have invested in diverse fields such as telecommunications, petrochemicals and chemicals, floriculture and have executed engineering contracts in the power and other sectors in Kenya as well as in East Africa.

In her remarks, the High Commissioner highlighted the contribution of Indian companies in strengthening economic and commercial partnership between the two countries. She also recalled India’s long standing contribution in area of capacity building in developing countries including Kenya. The meeting also deliberated on the forthcoming commercial events to be organised by the High Commission in collaboration with local stakeholders and partners.
