Press release for 1st India-Kenya Defence Industry Seminar and Expo in Nairobi

The first ever India Kenya Defence Industry Seminar and Expo was organized by the High Commission of India in Nairobi on 10-11 November, 2022 in consultation with the Kenya Ministry of Defence. The plenary event on 10 November was attended by High Commissioner Namgya Khampa, Lt. Gen. Francis Ogolla, Vice Chief of Defence Forces and Dr Ibrahim Mohamed, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Defence. The event also saw attendance by other defence and non-defence stakeholders from Kenya over the two days, including the Service Commanders of Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy.

Over 25 companies covering the Indian Defence Industry, both public and private, and a delegation from Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, Government of India (GoI) were represented in the Seminar. In addition, Kenyan companies that were keen to partner with the Indian companies were also invited.

The Indian companies covered a diverse spectrum of areas in defence manufacturing and showcased the expanse of India's domestic defence manufacturing capability. Various initiatives of the GoI to boost the ecosystem and promote indigenisation were also shared. Apart from giving a presentation to the larger audience, breakout sessions were conducted in smaller groups to facilitate more detailed discussions between the stakeholders over the two days.

Productive and extensive interaction between the Industry and Government officials took place to explore further engagement in this sector including joint ventures and other partnerships.
